Overcoming Anxiety By 20 Best Verses From A Real Perspective
Overcoming Anxiety with God

Some of my favorite verses in the bible are the ones I have listed below. Finding rest for a weary soul sounds impressive, doesn’t it? In all honesty, however, I’m unable to find the rest at certain times in my life in the following verses.

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29

For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:30

The Best Ways of Overcoming Anxiety with God

Allow me to unburden my heart and share something with you. What I’m confessing is real and many will say “But you are a Christian you’re not supposed to have this kind of issue…Do You?

The answer is YES. Anxiety is a real issue whether you are a born-again believer or not. Surely I’m NOT the only Christian who suffers from this, am I?

I am also certain that many will cast judgment that I don’t put enough trust and faith in God to take care of me. The answer again is Yes I know God will take care of me especially when I cry out to him on bended knee.

I do have complete faith and trust in God but I’m human and flawed and have a very real Disorder that I have been diagnosed with.

Is Anxiety a lack of faith?

I want to acknowledge something upfront. Just because you suffer from any type of disease or disorder there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of because you have it.

It does NOT make you less than others, and you are NOT being punished for something you think you have done wrong and deserve it. God loves you just as you are!

However, just because we are Christians that will not make us immune to sickness, troubles, heartaches, or afflictions. Now, Satan lies and tries to deceive us

Christian help for Anxiety

See Beloved, I am a Christian a daughter of the most-high God but I have wrestled with an Anxiety Disorder for the biggest part of my life. I’m sure the biggest reason for this is that I was in an abusive marriage for almost 15 years.

To this day I still suffer the effects of that as hard as I have tried to break free of it. Unfortunately, it can keep me bound and shackled at times. It will rear its ugly head to the surface in the most troublesome ways and in the darkest times.

Yes, I take medication for this. To me it’s no different than a Diabetic needing insulin for their disease it’s just a different kind of disorder!

  • Rushed and feeling overwhelmed.
  • Driving and the motion of my surroundings are too much to bear due to the side effects of one of my AutoImmune Disorders.
  • Worried about finances.
  • Concerned for my Children and Grandchildren.
  • Working and seeing the pain and suffering my Oncology and Hematology patients face.
  • It can happen any time at any moment!

I handle anxiety the best I can, for the most part. You see Friends this isn’t something people like to discuss. It’s easier to sweep it under the rug so to speak.

You know the old saying out of sight out of mind. However, there is a truth about fighting anxiety that everybody should know!

How Do You Explain Overcoming Anxiety to Other Church Members?

You don’t want people to view you as less than or a freak show. If you don’t have to deal with anything like this I’m so thrilled for you but PLEASE show compassion to those who have to deal with these types of things.

You have no idea what it’s like unless you cope with anxiety.

You can’t cast judgment on someone simply because you can’t visually see a problem. Just remember that ALL of us are dealing with things that the other knows nothing about. So be Kind ALWAYS!

Why Do People Not Share Their Struggle with Anxiety?

In all honesty, people with anxiety feel nothing can or will be done about it and have to learn to deal with it on their own.

Not only this but they may also think their fears are all in their head or may have done something to deserve it and/or avoid seeking help because they fear to reach out for help will be perceived as a weakness on their part.

Even Christians will NOT seek help simply because they believe anxiety is a sign of their spiritual unbelief or failures.

Why Is It So Hard To Talk About Anxiety Within The Christian Community?

Why? Due to the fear that they’ll be told they are just lacking faith and trust in God. I have researched Anxiety Disorders, and I had no idea there were so many wide-ranged areas of this disease.

I have been diagnosed with GAD, which is Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

What is the Description of Anxiety?

If you have been to my house or have been in my Lab Bay at work I have a small touch of OCD also and is shown by how I have ___?

Objects facing the same direction. I just call it being organized. I know someone personally who has PTSD due to serving our Country.

To fathom the horror they must have seen and faced and still deal with after they return home to their families must be a challenge.

PTSD, in my opinion, would be the most difficult to live with and would be extremely challenging. Please show them the utmost RESPECT, not Condemnation or judgment.

Here’s a list of anxiety disorders that are typically short-term:

Acute Stress Disorder

Diagnosed when anxiety symptoms occur immediately following trauma but are short-lived:

  • Adjustment disorder with anxious features – diagnosed when a person develops anxiety symptoms about a major life-changing event – like getting married or moving to another city. Symptoms generally start within three months of the stressful event and occur for six months or less.
  • Substance-induced anxiety disorder – generally resolves when the substance is discontinued or when withdrawal from the substance is over.

List Of Anxiety Disorders That Are Typically Long-Term:

Fear of being in a public place where escape would be embarrassing or difficult. This is particularly prevalent when a person fears they may have a panic attack.

General Anxiety Disorder

This type of anxiety disorder can be short- or long-term depending on the medical condition. Anxiety often develops in illnesses like heart conditions.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

Anxiety symptoms occur in multiple environments and due to multiple objects or situations. Anxiety symptoms may not have a known cause.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Anxiety symptoms are intrusive, obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors (or mental acts).

OCD is considered a chronic type of anxiety disorder.

Panic Disorder

Consists of severe, immediate anxiety symptoms (a panic attack) due to a variety of causes, as well as the worry over having another panic attack.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Anxiety symptoms can occur after trauma and are long-term in nature.

Anxiety symptoms occur in social or performance situations and stem from the fear of being humiliated or embarrassed.

Anxiety symptoms occur around a specific object or situation which results in avoidance. I have listed the different kinds of anxiety disorders above, but I also wanted to give you the scriptures below to meditate on that will hopefully help you the same way they help me.

Trust me, sweet friend, I know how difficult it can be at times to cast your cares, troubles, and anxiety, over to God.

Christian Help For Anxiety

In all honesty, as a Christian, the best thing you can do is give your anxiety to God.

Overcoming Anxiety With God By Memorizing Scripture When You Need It Most

The following scriptures our my lifeline for overcoming anxiety.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children. Matthew 11:25

Ask for Prayer

Not only do Christians need to understand, but for every human being, anxiety changes us. It changes our perception and challenges us physically.

You can ask our brothers and sisters in Christ and/or our Lifegroup members and pastors to simply say a prayer for us. Sweet friend, it is more than ok to ask for help.

The Gospel Truth Anchors Us

For those coping with anxiety, it can feel as though your feelings and thoughts are actively taking over every fiber of your being.

At the same time, you also know your feelings cannot be trusted. While your feelings try to detour you, the gospel anchors you and you know it’s your lifeline.

Take Refuge And Rest In God

Anxiety more often than not will creep up when you least expect it. It happens when you try to do too much all at once.

When you bite off more than you can chew so to speak, your bodies shut down in ways you don’t expect. God didn’t design you to go 24-7.

You are to “be still” which means to rest in God’s presence. You are to listen to what your bodies need.

Rest, exercise, have a good bedtime routine, get eight hours of sleep, and consume healing foods.

Precious friend, you are loved and cherished by the creator of the Universe and you can always depend on him to be there for you in your time of need.

Hope in Christ is your only hope in today’s world. If I can help you in any way please do not hesitate to comment or message me and I will take your prayer before the throne of Grace. Remember when anxiety attacks give it to God.

Your Turn
